Welcome to Hypnodontia.com!
My name is Connie Burgstahler, and I have first hand knowledge and experience in the area of dental fears, phobias, and general anxiety regarding dental procedures.
I have experienced extensive dental work in my life, and most of that time, I had a great deal of fear regarding my procedures.
In 2001, I had left a wonderful position as a office manager in a dental practice to become a massage therapist.
I worked closely with many of my clients and discovered that most of them were trying to cope with fears, phobias, panic attacks, and anxiety.
Knowing that I could produce favorable results that would help my clients, I became a Certified Hypnotherapist, and in 2004, I began to work with many of my clients concerning their fears, phobias, and anxieties.
I became aware that this type of work would be very beneficial for doctors and patients in the dental field as well.
Here is some history regarding Hypnodontia.
One specific area of hypnosis used is in the dental field.
It is called hypnodontia.
According to the British Psychological Counsel - 2001
There is convincing evidence that hypnotic procedures are effective in the management and relief of both acute and chronic pain and in assisting in the alleviation of pain, discomfort and distress due to medical and dental procedures and childbirth.
It was used extensively prior to the 19th century and the development of chemical anesthetics during dental procedures.
Today, using the techniques for relieving anxiety, increasing comfort during procedures and in aiding the healing process are just a few applications.
Create for yourself the health benefits of the relaxation response.
* Lower the byproducts of stress
* Decrease heart rate and respiration
* Lower blood pressure
* All by using your breath
As a member of The International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA) and National Guild fo Hypnotherapy, I work along both of their objectives, which is to decrease stress allowing the body to focus on the natural healing course.
I am also featured in an article written in Doctor of Dentistry
magazine that talks more about this.
